On a donkey 🐴? The King was actually riding a donkey into one of the popular city.
Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey simply signifies that he came in peace to serve and of humility as a “righteous, victorious, and lowly king. As it was a prophecy coming to its fulfillment; according to prophet Zechariah that the Messiah would enter into Jerusalem a “righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey” – Zech. 9:9.
The same witnessed occured as recorded in the book of Matthew and John which stated that it was awesome for Jesus to ride on a donkey so as to fulfill the scriptures – Matt. 21:7; John. 12:14-15.
Unlike the ones who rode into Israel on a horse as the military which shows forth war, battle and control or in charge over other’s nation and peaceful being! The Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians; they all instilled a very deep fears into the hearts of Israeli due to their kind of attack or means of coming into the nation on horse drawn chariots.
But, Jesus clearly reassured the city of Jerusalem a just, peaceful, humility kind of kingship with service and not forgetting salvation unto their souls; by entering the city on a donkey.
In ancient Israel, donkeys were a symbol of peace and humility. Even Israel’s forefathers (Abraham and Jacob) rode donkeys. The kings of Israel would ride on white donkeys (Judges. 5:10). It shows forth or gives peace to the people in humility.
Jesus met his disciples after his resurrection, said to them “peace be unto you” – John 20:19;20. Not only that. “He went further to show them His hands and sides” just to remove fear off their mind and put in them faith; believing spirit that he is risen as it was written in the scriptures according to prophecy and not to remain dead!
We could also relate this the the account of him entering Jerusalem on a donkey to assure the people of Jerusalem; the Israelites that he is come to remove the fear that the Roman empire, Egyptians and other nations hath brought upon them and to give them peace as the king of peace; and coming to them, riding a donkey (which indicates peace, humility and service as a leader) gave them same impression that he is a peaceful king.
He spoke peace into their fears and restored salvation unto mankind!
