Influence is power
~ Simeon Okore
On a special day, I woke up reflecting on some of the quotes written by Mr. Simz. So, I decided to check out this particular quote; I was like, let me experiment the mystery of this saying that “influence is powerful”.
This was how it started. I resumed work after a week holiday and started dressing on corporate with my trouser folded an inch above the ankle. To my greatest surprise, everyone started dressing same way throughout the upper week. They did not even bother to ask the reason I dressed that way. None of them cared to know the reason behind my dressing style. So one day, I asked one of the young men, sir why do you dress this way? He said because he has seen me dress the same way and it is really cute on me. I said wow, really? He responded yes bro, without knowing that I was actually carrying out an experiment with an idea 💡. I did not stop right there. I continued with the research by asking another man same question and he responded with same thing the other young man said, that he likes the dressing style on me and he wants to look alike. Then I smiled.
I allowed it for almost a month and decided to see what will happen next if I choose to unfold the trouser back to the ankle level; that is the way it ought to be. Lo and behold, every one of those men chose to do same thing. Wonderful! What were they thinking? Maybe, I have received a query or warning to unfold the trouser. But there was no such thing! Or maybe I have realized that it was not normal to fold the trouser.
*Question: What do you think that made them choose to do exactly what I did?*
Everything that man does or admires has first been admitted in his heart or mind. There are three things which connects with influence. They are, your Spirit, Mind and Body. And this influence is based on what we see, read and hear. Accepting it or not is on the side of higher percentage, that is, the dominant or strong spirit! “Your body cannot function without your spirit and your spirit cannot operate without your body, with the help of your mind.” “If the mind did not accept it, it will not be carried out by your spirit and your body will not be in action!”
You will always be like the people or person who you follow and vice versa. What do I mean by that, we have friends and friends have us. We follow each other in what and any manner. There are the ones we follow openly. They know we are friends and some secretly without their notice. Why? Because we want to be like them. We admire their ability and capacity – I called them secret mentors! Whether good or bad… you know! They don’t know that they are mentoring someone. They are just unaware! Only the mentee is aware of such action. We read many books, see many videos and listen to many audio records and messages of some persons, because we are inspired by their works and want to be like them – I call it motivated or inspired to be like them!
Why am I saying these?
Before you are being influenced by the way someone talks, what he or she does, the behavior, your mind has already accepted his or her being and ready to be like such a person through both spirits reasoning together and communicating the information to your body to work on! It is not that your spirit is that weak but it indicates that you admire to be as such person. But you see, the mind has a vital role to play here. Your mind need to be equiped with the right source and sound information so as not to allow wavering tools to shift your mind and make it unstable! This simply means that the mind is the center (mastermind) of every action! – Simeon Okore.
We are influenced by – Character Is what or who you really are; who you are known for. What makes you different from others as an individual is defined by the character you possess. Character is also known as a personality. What makes a human being to be personalized, that is, the qualities in such a person are his or her character! Your character comes from your values, what you believe, and the things you agree or disagree., attitude, manners, actions, love, kindness, lifestyle. Even the way we walk and work is being influenced by someone or rather we influence others by the way and manner of approaches towards things and situations.
Attitude: Your behavior; The way one reacts to an event or outcomes indicate his or her attitude. The way you think determine your action toward a particular situation. How about your feeling? Is it humanly welcomed in such a way of restoring or retaining the societal respect of humanity? How you behave shows exactly your attitude; that is your name.
Influence: An influence is necessary when it comes to respect to one and the other. It is also the power to initiate, earn, bestowed, build or destroy respect depending on the kind of influence it may be.
Perspective: This is just the way you see things. The manner of approach towards an event or situation. It is your art of visualization, your innermost reaction to a particular occasion. Respect lies on the way one views things, that is, your sense of reasoning in regards to a fight, disagreement or misunderstanding.
Values: One’s value(s) are of important. It is worthful of an individual. Your values are seen in your daily living or lifestyle. Like I said earlier on, that respect is what you and another sees in each other as a product. Your value(s) are one of the pieces of evidence seen or heard whenever your name is been mentioned. They are cultivated in you!
Impacts: This comes, offcourse on your influence to humanity. Your name is in the service of humanity. The actual effect you have rendered to others whether positive or negative resonates respect or disrespect and #influence others. #Impact shows the rate of interest one has toward others in the society.
Culture: Cultures are ideas! It might come from your beliefs or your mindset. It is said to be the people’s way of life. One can likewise cultivate his or her culture; the way of his or her life by initiating their ideas in order to have a respect towards one and another. One’s name is constantly related to his or her culture, be is individual or community culture and as well creat an impact to others. It can happen in a home, marriage, relationship of all areas with the motion of instituting accorded respect. Therefore, culture helps to build; earn or gives respect which is also a great influence to human’s society.
Lifestyle: The basic of everything in existence is how we live; your lifestyle. One’s way of life suggest his or her name. taking a look from the beginning, how each creation was giving a name based on its found environment and activities in which they are involved in such as how they walk or move and act. Our livestyle indicate who we are and respect is found in the way someone lives or might be living.
Your name does not influence anyone at all… The magic of influence is based on what you do, who you are and who you actually represent! The mention of your name only draws attention or radiates exactly who you are representing, and reflect your being in existence according to your task or duties on earth. Let us link this to the rich man and Lazurus for better understanding. The rich man was known for his riches; how he dresses and the kind of clothes he puts on his body and Lazurus to be the poor beggar who always ask help from the rich man while on earth. But, Lazurus received nothing from the rich due to how he regarded the poor. Something happened when they died! Both the rich, the poor were not remembered by their nomenclature per say but by what they did here on earth and how they lived!
Your name is not what you are called; what you are and who you represent is your name!
Now the first question is what are you? And secondly, who do you represent?
What you are is exactly what people see in you… How do they see your character, attitude, manners, actions, love, kindness, lifestyle, etcetera?
And from what they see in you will surely and clearly indicates who you represent or rather who you are representing. Positively or negatively, it simply shows that you may be representing your father, mother or whoever has those attributes you portray. And another thing is that your conscience, which is your personal conviction will tell you exactly who you are and who you are representing.
One day, Christ made a journey through the villages of Caesarea Philippi, and thought it wise to ask his disciples “who do people say that I am”? There were many answers though… And they told him, “John the Baptist; and others say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” (Mark 8:27;28).
But he was not satisfied with their answers because, that is not who he represent! Though they see Him as John, because he did baptize as John the Baptist while others see Him as Elijah or Jeremiah the prophets, because He did say things that will happen and they happened exactly. He knew that there is something different in him that few people might have seen or witnessed which indicates who He actually represent.
So, he did not just stop there. He went ahead to ask his disciples, now these are who people think I am. As my disciples, walking and working alongside with me, tell me then, who do you say that I am? Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one about him (Mark 8:29;30).
It is only one who operates in same mode and spirit can tell you exactly who you are… A different mind will not understand the principles involved in the revelation of your true self. It is by the spirit of God; the Holy spirit who will reveal that to you in your spirit and through who has a like spirit.
Christ was doing good, healing the sick and doing miracles, signs and wonders, teaching the people and showing love(which is the basic attribute of God) which made him different and showed that he represent the Father, the God of all creation. With love, He made all things accordingly and beautifully. His influence is in all that He has made and they show forth His existence!
Shalom!
